Recording Formats 

With in-camera recording of ProRes 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) and ProRes 4K Cinema (4096 x 2636 pixels), the ALEXA SXT for rent with Camaleon rental is the ideal choice for productions needing 4K UHD TV or 4K DCI cinema, so filmmakers can continue to use the ARRI ALEXA environment they know and love. 16: 9 ProRes 4K UHD

With the SXT camera you have the best path to 4K UHD, offering the immediacy and speed of ProRes at the UHD distribution standard of 3840 x 2160 pixels.


Open Gate ProRes 4K Cinema

A unique format for the SXT camcorder; not only does it provide the cinema standard of 4096 pixels wide, but it allows VFX markers or up/down to reframe in post via the additional height of 2636 pixels.

6: 5 ProRes 2K Anamorphic

The most economical way to get the best image quality at 2K with anamorphic lenses. The Arri SXT rental camera creates a ProRes file (fully compatible with all major non-linear editing software without the need for transcoding) for viewing in the 2K DCI (2048 x 858) delivery format, so no debayering (converting to a visible three-channel image), cropping, rescaling or de-anamorphizing in post is required.

6: 5 ProRes 4K Anamorphic Film

The most economical way to get the best 4K image quality with anamorphic lenses. The SXT camera creates a ProRes file (fully compatible with all major non-linear editing software without the need for transcoding) in the 4K DCI delivery format (4096 x 1716), so no debayering (converting to a three-channel image), cropping, rescaling or deamorphosing is required in post.

4: 3 ProRes 2.8K

The SXT camera is popular for spherical 16: 9 or 1.85: 1, this format provides additional vertical resolution for tracking markers in VFX and reframing in post. It has the immediacy and speed of ProRes, plus a lower data rate than Open Gate and works with a smaller circle of confusion than Open Gate.

Open Gate ProRes 3.4K

The Alexa SXT rental camera is designed for those who want the maximum image area and pixel count of a Super 35 ALEXA (3424 x 2202) combined with the immediacy and speed of ProRes.


Built-in remote control features

With its built-in remote control system around the lens, this camera works quickly and efficiently. Plug the ARRI lens motors directly into the camera, turn on the wireless handheld unit (such as the WCU-4). The integration of the wireless control infrastructure and the lens control system (LDS) into the camera not only saves time, but also weight, as an installation with an ARRI ALEXA SXT EV and an external motor control receiver would be more cumbersome due to cabling and weight. Compatibility with ARRI handheld units/accessories, such as the WCU-4, as well as with cmotion handheld units makes this an extremely flexible tool.


Flexible on-set monitoring. 

To further streamline workflows and deliver what professionals around the world have been asking for, ARRI's rental ARRI ALEXA SXT cameras include three fully independent HD-SDI outputs. This allows the monitoring of three signals independently, making it possible to display on one monitor the logarithmic image (for the Dop), on another monitor the image with a LUT applied, e.g. Rec 709 (for the Director) and the display of another monitor with the LUT applied allowing to see the data concerning the camera configuration. The ARRI ALEXA SXT rental cameras retain the acclaimed 3.4K ALEV III sensor from previous ALEXAs and add the state-of-the-art electronics of ARRI's revolutionary ALEXA 65 camera. These high-performance electronics combine the latest generation of FPGA processors with a fast internal backplane and form the basis of a completely revised image processing chain, advanced pixel correction and optional noise reduction. This results in a further improvement in overall image quality. Single speed mode

Switching between normal and high-speed mode is a thing of the past with the ARRI ALEXA SXT, as all frame rates can be chosen directly in single-speed mode.

Maintain the Look from Pre-Production to Post-Production

A new look management architecture has been incorporated into the ARRI ALEXA SXT camera to make it easier and more controllable, this new tool offers look control from pre-production to post-production. With the ARRI COLOR TOOL and ARRI Look File you can create new looks compatible with ALEXA Mini and AMIRA. Having the ability to store image/look style information in the metadata of recorded files facilitates live color grading, such as automated dailies without editing but with the look applied.



New color management

The creation of powerful and unique new developments has been made possible through the use of the advanced color management engine originally developed for ARRI AMIRA. Taking advantage of the native color gamut of the ALEXA sensor, this new engine allows unprecedented control that ultimately means greater creative freedom for the filmmaker. In addition, on-set look preview is improved, including the option to use the wide color gamut of the Rec 2020 gamma, while dailies creation becomes more efficient and final grading becomes faster.

A new look file type, the ALF-2 (ARRI Look File 2), contains an ASC CDL (Color Decision List) as well as a 3D LUT (Look-Up Table). ALF-2 files can be created with a new ARRI Look tool, which can also import standard 3D LUTs. ALF-2 files and the tools that create them are compatible between ALEXA SXT, ALEXA Mini and AMIRA. Once loaded into the camera, CDL and/or 3D LUT parameters can be applied to any of the three HD-SDI or viewfinder outputs. For those who need faster workflows, CDL and/or 3D LUT parameters can also be applied directly to the ProRes recording.

The new color management engine can match the look of existing ALEXA SXT cameras, but also provides the basis for creating a radically different look.

The ARRI SXT/SXR rental camera supports the same media currently used with the Alexa XT.  In addition, they are compatible with the new high-speed, high-capacity SXR Capture Drives. Both the 1 TB and 2 TB SXR Capture Drives are capable of recording a stepped data rate of 20 Gbit/s per second. To ensure the best data transfer integrity and greater flexibility to support current and future media, each media family requires its own adapter when used with the ALEXA SXT/SXR camera.
