You can choose between 14 in-camera recording formats, 7 of which are new. All sensor modes can now be used to record in ARRIRAW or ProRes. There is an ARRI ALEXA SXT recording format for every project no matter the budget, resolution requirements, aspect ratio, lenses or post-production needs.
Alexa SXT and SXR cameras also offer different options of recording formats, including 3.2K ProRes and 3.4K ProRes, which allow filming a lighter and easier to move footage, that can later be exported in UHD or 4K DCI in the post-production process. 16:9 ProRes 4K UHD
The best path to get 4K UHD image, offering the immediacy and speed of ProRes in the UHD distribution standard of 3840 x 2160 pixels.
Open Gate ProRes 4K Cine
A format you will only get in SXT cameras; it does not only provide the cinema standard of 4096 pixels across, it also allows VFX markers and up/down repositioning in post-production thanks to the extra 2636 pixels height.
6:5 ProRes 2K Anamorphic
2K image quality with anamorphic lenses. The ALEXA SXT camera creates a ready-to-view ProRes file in the 2K DCI delivery format (2048 x 858), so no debayering, cropping, rescaling or de-squeezing is needed in post-production.
6:5 ProRes 4K Cine Anamorphic
4K image quality with anamorphic lenses. The ALEXA SXT camera creates a ready-to-view ProRes file in the 4K DCI delivery format (4096 x 1716), so no debayering, cropping, rescaling or de-squeezing is needed in post-production.
4:3 ProRes 2.8K
Popular for spherical 16:9 or 1.85:1 shows, this format provides extra height for VFX tracking markers and repositioning in post-production. It has the immediacy and speed of ProRes, plus a lower data rate than Open Gate, and works with a smaller image circle than Open Gate.
Open Gate ProRes 3.4K
Designed for those who want the maximum image area and pixel count from a Super 35 ALEXA SXT (3424 x 2202) in combination with the immediacy and speed of ProRes.
16:9 ARRIRAW 3.2K
The largest number of pixels that can be processed at 120 fps (3168 x 1782). Use the full image area with ARRI Super 35 PL mount lenses, or gain extra room for repositioning, stabilizing and tracking when using lenses with an image circle covering a 2.8K image area.
Built-in Remote Control Features
With its built-in radio and lens motor control electronics, this camera makes working on set a faster and more efficient task. Plug the ARRI lens motors directly into the camera, turn on the wireless hand unit (like the WCU-4) and off you go. Integrating the wireless and lens control infrastructure into the camera not only saves time, but also weight, as a setup with an ALEXA SXT EV and an external motor control box would be more complicated to wire up and heavier to carry. Compatibility with the ARRI hand units, like the WCU-4, as well as with the c-motion motors, makes this camera a supremely flexible tool. Also, the ARRI Alexa SXT and SXR cameras we have for rental/hire, have three totally independent HD SDI outputs. This offers many display possibilities: for instance, showing LUT parameters to the director or client while displaying the LogC on the DIT screen and showing, let’s say, a REC709 with high peaking and status info to the focus puller.
The ARRI Alexa SXT has a new on board color management feature and the beloved outstanding ALEV III 3.4K sensor (already featured in the other cameras of the ARRI cinema line up); they also added the Alexa65's cutting edge technology. These high performance electronic components mix the last generation of FPGA processors with a fast internal backplane, and are the basis of a completely revisited image processing process that features advanced pixel correction and optional noise reduction. As its "predecessors", the ARRI Alexa SXT cameras feature these popular sensor modes: Open Gate 4:3 and 16:9, being able to deliver both 'ArriRaw' and ProRes up to a 120fps frequency. The creation of on board LUTs has been possible by using an advanced color management engine, originally developed for the Amira camera.

Keep your look from filming to post-production
A new look managing architecture has been incorporated in to the rental/hire ARRI ALEXA SXT camera in order to make it easier and more controllable. This new tool offers look-control from the filming to the post-production process. With the ARRI COLOR TOOL and ARRI Look File, you can create new looks that will be compatible with ALEXA Mini and AMIRA. Having the possibility of storing the look information in the metadata of the recorded files, makes live grading on set easier; its like working with automatic non-edited dailies but with applied looks.
New color management in the rental/hire SXT camera world
By using the native color gammas of the ALEV III, this engine grants a totally new color control, which at the end of the day, means more creative freedom for filmmakers. Also, the on set preview feature has been improved by including the possibility of using the new 'Rec 2020'; this way the creation of dailies and organization of the footage can be even faster.
A new type of look file, the ALF-2 (Arri Look File 2), contains the ASC CDL (color decision list) as well as 3D LUTs. Alf-2 files are created by a new app: the ARRI Look Creator, which can also import standard 3D LUTs. Alf-2 files are compatible with Alexa SXT cameras, Amira and Alexa Mini cameras. Once they are loaded in camera, CDL or 3D LUT settings can be applied to any of the HD SDI outputs and the ProRes recording. This way it will be possible to match new images with footage coming from “old” Alexa cameras, or find a totally new look.
ARRI SXT/SXR cameras have the same media support the ARRI Alexa XT has, plus they are also compatible with new SXR high-speed and storage modules. Both the 1Tb and 2TB SXR capture drives are capable of a stunning 20Gbit/second recording speed.
