Alexa SXT recording formats: ProRes 4K UHD and 4K Cine

With in‑camera ProRes 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) and ProRes 4K Cine (4096 × 2636), the Alexa SXT is ideal for productions delivering 4K UHD or 4K DCI, while maintaining the trusted ALEXA workflow.

The camera offers 14 in‑camera recording formats, including multiple new modes. All sensor modes can be recorded in ARRIRAW or ProRes, adapting to budget, resolution, aspect ratio, lenses and the post pipeline.

16:9 ProRes 4K UHD

A direct path to 4K UHD with the speed and simplicity of ProRes (3840 × 2160).

Open Gate ProRes 4K Cine

A unique SXT option: 4096 px wide with extra height (2636 px) for VFX, markers and reframing.

Integrated remote lens control and LDS: faster setups, fewer external accessories

With in‑camera lens control, the Alexa SXT can be built quickly and efficiently: connect ARRI motors directly to the camera and use a wireless hand unit (e.g., WCU‑4). Built‑in wireless control plus LDS can reduce rig time, cabling and weight compared to external solutions.

Compatibility with ARRI accessories and cmotion hand units makes the Alexa SXT a flexible tool for different camera departments.

Flexible on‑set monitoring: 3 independent HD‑SDI outputs

The ARRI Alexa SXT includes three fully independent HD‑SDI outputs, enabling three different signals at the same time—for example: Log output for the DoP, a LUT‑applied image for the director and a third feed with LUT + camera overlays for the DIT.

Alexa SXT keeps the ALEV III 3.4K sensor and adds advanced electronics inspired by ALEXA 65—revised processing chain, advanced pixel correction and optional noise reduction—delivering a further improvement in overall image quality.

Single speed mode: direct fps selection

On the Alexa SXT, switching between normal and high‑speed modes is simplified: all frame rates are selected directly in a single speed mode.

Keep the look: from pre‑production to post‑production

Alexa SXT includes an on‑set look management architecture that helps keep creative intent consistent from prep through post. With ARRI Color Tool and ARRI Look File, you can create looks compatible with ALEXA Mini and AMIRA, and embed look data as metadata for fast dailies.

New color management and ALF‑2 look files

Thanks to a color management engine originally developed for ARRI AMIRA, Alexa SXT leverages the ALEXA sensor’s native gamut for finer control and more creative freedom. On‑set preview is improved (including Rec. 2020 monitoring options) and workflows for dailies and final grading are streamlined.

ALF‑2 (ARRI Look File 2) can include ASC CDL and a 3D LUT. Once loaded into the camera, it can be applied to any HD‑SDI output or the viewfinder—and, for faster workflows, to ProRes recording.

ARRI Alexa SXT / SXR recording media

Alexa SXT/SXR supports the same media used in Alexa XT and is compatible with newer, high‑speed and high‑capacity SXR capture media. SXR Capture Drives (1 TB and 2 TB) support stepped data rates up to 20 Gbit/s. Each media family requires its corresponding adapter when used with ALEXA SXT/SXR.
