Offering a similar aesthetic feel to the original Cooke Anamorphics, the 1.8x provides a slightly different compression ratio and larger image circle to fully cover Full Frame sensors (Alexa LF, Sony Venice, Red Monstro).

COOKE ANAMORPHIC FF RENTAL
Anamorphic/i Full Frame Plus Standard and SF (Special Flair) prime lenses represent the next logical step in the evolution of cinema: large format production with anamorphic characteristics, including flare and oval bokeh.
At 1.8x compression, the lens still exhibits a typical anamorphic feel with an oval bokeh effect and uses approximately 90% of the pixels at 2.4:1. Shoot at 2.7:1 and you have the full frame available and 100% of the pixels. As with all Cooke lenses, the 1.8x full frame anamorphics offer excellent optical and mechanical performance, control of flare, distortion, flare and spherical aberrations at maximum aperture.
The coverage circle covers a full 24 x 36 fixed size sensor with 1.8 compression. With 2x compression you would lose too many pixels. At 1.6x you won't get enough anamorphic character. At 1.8x you have that sweet spot with a great anamorphic feel and about 90% of the pixels at 2.4:1. Shoot at 2.7:1 and you have the full frame available and 100% of the pixels.
Excellent optical and mechanical performance, control of flare, distortion, glare and spherical aberrations at maximum aperture. Cam-type focus mechanism allows for smooth focus adjustments. Modular construction increases ease of maintenance and service.
In addition, Anamorphic/i Full Frame Plus lenses come equipped with /i technology to capture frame-by-frame digital information, as do all modern Cooke cine lenses for film and digital capture.
