Cooke S4 rental/hire lenses. Cooke S4 hire lenses have a maximum T2 iris aperture throughout the whole set. They were launched in the late 90s and equipped with a standard PL mount; these lenses are well known for their smoothness and low contrast. They also offer amazingly truthful skin tones and perform very well, even wide open; nevertheless, as it usually happens, their best performance is around T2.8.

COOKE S4 LENSES RENTAL
For the last 30 years, Cooke Optics manufacturers focused only in assembling zoom lenses such as the Varotal 20-100mm T3.1, the 18-100mm T3, the Super Cinetal 25-250mm T3.7, etc... They abandoned prime lens manufacturing for about 40 years, and then, in 1998, they produced the new S-4 lenses serie. The S4 complete lens kit covers a focal range that goes from the 12mm lens to the 300mm. All of these lenses have a constant T2 max. iris aperture, excluding the 300mm (which is T2.8). The whole set has a 110mm front diameter, so 4x5'6 matte boxes and filters are required to avoid vignetting. These lenses weigh from 1.5 to 4.7kg, and are only available in PL mount.
Cooke S4 spherical lenses deliver high-end optical and mechanical results with their anti-flare layer, minimal distortion, veiling and geometrical aberration when wide open. The image of these lenses is famous for its smoothness and definition, with soft passing from focus to blur, low contrast and warm colors. Speaking of which, the lenses delivery of color is unique. They also give outstanding skin tones. It is important to remark that despite their softness, the S4 are capable of perfectly reproducing image detail; we shouldn't confuse the concept of softness with lack of definition. They actually have the perfect resolution for a Super 35 sensor.
As any lens made by this brand, the S4 lenses are also designed to perfectly match any Cooke lens. All Cooke prime and zoom lenses share chromatic response, including the latest S5i lens series.
