COOKE S8/I FF LENS - HIRE RENTAL
Cooke has announced the S8/i Full Frame (FF) series of lenses. These lenses feature a fully spherical design and all have a very fast T1.4 aperture. The first seven lenses in the series come in focal lengths of 25mm, 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm and 135mm. Nine additional lenses will join the range from the end of 2022. Cooke has focused on optimizing contrast performance for the S8/i. Cooke says that creating film-like images with that "Cooke look" requires contrast optimization. Cooke's design team, which includes Academy Award-winning designer Iain Neill, Cooke's chief optics consultant, conducted a large study to ensure that the contrast performance of the S8/i is maximized to match the actual resolution of digital cameras.
This is an interesting move by Cooke, especially considering they already have the S7/i Full-Frame fixed lenses. Because many other manufacturers have released faster lenses, Cooke needed to release an alternative to the S7/i series. The S8/i are next-generation high-speed full-frame lenses, designed based on feedback from cinematographers to create more realistic, film-like images with spherical lenses for digital motion capture. Cooke claims the S8/i produces images with an almost organic feel and clean bokeh.
With a maximum aperture of T1.4 across the entire focal range, the new S8/i FF lenses are positioned as the widest aperture full-frame lenses on the market. They also offer greater control over depth of field and flare characteristics while delivering excellent low-light performance without grain. Under the body, S8/i is a fully spherical design that produces a nearly telecentric output of light rays, which is efficient for the sensors. It features smooth, spherical bokeh and minimal color fringing.
The seven current focal lengths range in weight from 2.1 kg / 4.69 lb for the 50 mm T1.4 to 3.18 kg / 7 lb for the 135 mm T1.4. Compact and lightweight and versatile, the new S8/i FF lenses have been created for a wide variety of situations and today's compact cameras. However, being lighter has not compromised strength, durability or exceptional image quality.
