LAOWA - THE COMPANY 

• It is an optics manufacturing company that was established in Hefei an eastern city of China in 2013. Its founder was Dayong Li. The company was created to develop and produce a portfolio of unique, practical and affordable photographic optics, with its own design that stands out. Their head office is currently located in Hong Kong, although they also have more offices in the US.

• The company is currently engaged in the design, manufacture, marketing and distribution of camera lenses. They also distribute their products in more than 40 countries around the world. They want to create optics that are more affordable. In 2016 they decided to create a crowdfunding platform to help them fund the creation of new lenses.

DAYONG LI - THE FOUNDER

• Dayong Li is an engineer and graduated in optoelectronic engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology. He is currently the brand's chief optics designer. He is renowned for the creation of his unique optics. The key to Dayong Li's success is that he maintains a constant connection with the photography and filmmaking community, listening to their needs and ideas in order to transform them into new unique optics designs.

LAOWA - CINEMA'S CONTRIBUTIONS

• In February 2014 they released the Laowa 60mm f/2.8 2X ultra macro lens, which became the world's first 2:1 macro lens with a focus range from 2:1 magnification ratio to infinity focus.

• Subsequently, they introduced another exceptional lens with the title of "World's First" the Laowa 15mm f/4 wide-angle macro lens. This stands out as the world's widest 1:1 macro lens.

• In 2017, they introduced the world's widest f/2 optic for Micro Four Thirds sensors, followed by another member of the same near-zero distortion range, the Laowa 15mm f/2 Zero-D designed for use on Sony E mounts.
