ROSCO - THE COMPANY

  • In 1910, a chemist named Sydney Rosenstein founded the Rosco company in Brooklyn (New York), which he named after ROS from his last name plus CO from the company. The first two products of this brand were more focused on chemistry, since they were lacquers that were used to color or frost the bulbs that were introduced into these liquids called Coraline and Opaline. At first the lights that colored the cinema marquees were transparent, until Rosco arrived and they began to color them with these products.
  • In 1958, cousins Stan Miller and Len Kraft bought the Rosco company from Sydney Rosentein and four years later in 1962 they moved from Brooklyn to Harrison, another neighborhood in New York. In the 1960s, Rosco saw that the film industry had a certain lack of filters that did not exist, so Stan Miller met with different directors and lighting technicians to listen to their requests, so Rosco manufactured the products that he needed at that time. Movie industry.
  • In 1973, thanks to the filters that the Rosco brand created in the 1960s and was still creating, they won an award from the US Film Academy for designing color correction and lighting control filters. As a result of this, the following year in 1974 they decided to open a headquarters in Los Angeles, in order to be closer to the film industry and see its shortcomings in order to be able to design and manufacture products to cover these shortcomings. Everything is also going to open their first European office in London the following year.
  • Currently Rosco is a company dedicated to cinema with more than 100 years of experience, which creates a lot of trust in the brand since it has always been available to cover all the needs that have arisen in the film industry.

SYDNEY ROSENSTEIN - THE FOUNDER

  • At the age of just 24, Rosentstein founded the company Rosco. He was a chemist by profession, so he knew how to create a transparent dipping lacquer for coloring light bulbs and also a translucent lacquer. For the first few decades his slogan was "We Color the Lights of Broadway," and Rosenstein was dedicated to maintaining that reputation. However, when he reached the age of 70, he chose to sell the company.
