RED WEAPON 6K - HIRE - RENTAL

The Weapon 6K rental - hire camera developed by RED provides up to 6K resolution videos. It is one of the last products developed by the brand, and as such, it includes DMSC2 technology, which allows you to connect accessories without using cables. Weapon 6K camera rental/hire in Camaleon Rental.

The RED WEAPON 6K rental/hire camera includes the DRAGON 19,4 Mpx CMOS sensor, with 6144 x 3160 effective pixels along a rectangular surface of 30,7mm x 15,8mm (34,5mm diagonal). This sensor has been specifically developed by RED to obtain a dynamic range of about 16,5 stops and high frame rates: it reaches 300fps when set in 2K (2,4:1) and 100 fps when shooting 6K (2,4:1). Weapon 6K rental - hire camera Recording Formats

The RED WEAPON 6K rental/hire camera is one of the first cameras of the new RED batch, and features the possibility of dual video recording in two different formats, one of them being the usual RED raw format (.R3D) and the other Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD/HR.

Weapon 6K Apple ProRes

Apple ProRes HD or 4k (.mov) clips can be recorded when setting the Continuous Record mode or with Motion Still+ options in the Weapon rental/hire camera's menu. However, if 4K recording is required, it will only be possible selecting certain codecs (ProRes 422, 422HQ or 422LT), reaching frame rates of 60fps (120fps @2K) and 29,97fps when dual recording.

It is important to note that it will not be possible to record 4K/5K FF when dual recording, and that the resulting file will depend on the previously selected resolution. Hence, if we have a 4K file but we have a smaller than 4K resolution selected, the camera will deliver a 2K ProRes file without cropping or reframing.

Weapon 6K Avid DNxHD/HR

The requirements for Avid DNxHD or DNxHR (.mxf) recording are pretty similar to those needed for Apple ProRes recording (Continuous Record or Motion + Still settings). 

Apple files can only be recorded in DNxHD / HR in the recording modes of Continuous Record or Motion + Still. When it is an HDRX recording, the A-track or the X-track is recorded according to the HDRX menu settings.

The RED RAW format is the default recording setting in the Red Weapon 6K rental/hire camera, and it has a color depth of 16bits per pixel. This file is saved without the image parameters (such as ISO, color temperature, etc...), which are saved as metadata that can be used as a reference in postproduction. Also, the files are compressed using the REDCODE codec, with a variable compression ratio between 2:1 and 22:1.

The .R3D files deliver the highest quality and performance of the Red Weapon 6K rental/hire camera, reaching up to a 6K resolution and 300fps. The Weapon 6K camera is available for rental/hire in Camaleon Rental.

Weapon 6K HDRX

HDR (high dynamic range) is a technique used to increase the dynamic range of an image. RED offers this characteristic by recording two simultaneous clips, one of them being regularly exposed (the A-track) and the other one being underexposed (X-track), which keeps the higher lights information. This process is made by exposing the regular image with a regular shutter speed (1/50 for instance), and exposing the simultaneous frame at a higher shutter speed (1/200, for example), thus obtaining an underexposed image for the X-track. This process was patented by RED and named “HDRX”, and is said to increase the dynamic range by 2-6 steps (depending on the selected setting). RED also highlights the ability of removing the motion gap, a time gap that was produced by previous HDR systems. This issue led to what is called a “motion track”, a sort of duplicated image. 

When exposing, either the A-track or the X-track can be selected to be monitored on a screen. If the dual recording option is selected, the monitored track will be the one recorded in the secondary file type (Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD/HR). Weapon camera rental/hire in Camaleon Rental.

Weapon 6K and Wireless connectivity

The new generation of RED hire camera bodies and accessories has been made using the DSMC2 system, which allows to connect accessories without using cables. This system has also improved rental/hire camera's ergonomics, attending to costumers’ feedback: new disposition of docks and connections, new ventilation systems...

The Weapon hire camera features an antenna that provides WiFi communication. There are two connecting modes:

Ad Hoc: where the Weapon camera generates a WiFi connection which can be detected by computers and smartphones for direct connection. The generated network may be encrypted via WAP2 security if desired.

Infrastructure mode: the Weapon hire camera and the remote device (computer, smartphone, tablet...) establish a WiFi connection with the same existing external WiFi network.
